But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:20-21
Tapestries are woven pieces of art that are treasured and passed down through the generations. Each embroidered canvas depicts a scene that tells a story. It can be hung on the wall or draped over the couch. Sometimes they are reminders of families or friends or places where someone has been. Sometimes it depicts a future hope of a dream nestled in the back of someone’s heart.
Since the beginning of time, God has woven tapestries. He set the sun and the stars in the sky to give us light. He set a bow in the heavens to remind us of His promise. He wove tapestries in the people who have walked this Earth. From Adam and Eve to Joseph and Mary, from generation to generation, the Bible has recorded the stories of these woven threads giving us faith and hope.
The scenic Christmas tapestry is a colorful reminder of this blessed time of year. We see all the colorful lights, decorations, and poinsettias. When we awake in the morning or drive down the street, the tapestry we see builds up excitement waiting for Christmas day. Nativity scenes remind us of the wonderful gift God gave us–His Son, Jesus, who gave us His life for our salvation. You are a colorful thread that God is weaving into the scenic tapestry around you. Just look at the wonderful artwork in the mirror and that beautiful smile. You have a story to tell, a testimony of the great work of art that God has created you to be. He will continue to weave you as a treasured piece of art.
He will take you and weave you together with others to form relationships that either last a season or a lifetime. Store up the treasured tapestries of your story as they will be reminders of the gifts of the love and salvation that God has given you. They, too, will then be the most marvelous gifts that you can give during our days of uncertainty this year.
